Is Tiff the new Stig?

I've just got round to watching Top Gear and the Atom piece hinted that Tiff was now on the staff.

Not seen any full body shots of the new Stig; Tiff has a bit of middle aged spread so should be easy to tell! I don't think it is though, would be a bit obvious as they have used Tiff for a couple of other tests.

Quoting JC "The Stig comes up to my legs and makes Richard Hammond look like a giant. All the good racing drivers these days are very small."

I don't think 5th Gear would let Tiff do it!!

But if he is freelance would be quite funny.

Tiff drove the Ariel Atom V8 on Top Gear in 2011.

They cloned the new Stig from one of my toenail clippings, he is still growing.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Well thats was quite obvious by James May talking to Tiff at the end of the feature and him getting out of the atom, taking his helmet off and clearly showing it was Tiff!! lol

The new stig (just like the old stig) will be which ever good driver they can lay their hands on at the time. Thats the whole idea of having a generic identy for their 'driver', to make it look as impartial as it can be without acctually having to have the same guy every week.

The last stig (ben collins) held the post for 8 years. It wasn't just any good driver they could lay there hands on.

Have you read "man in the white suit" ?

I would have thought it is Phil Keen as hes has been 1 of the 'stigs' for a while now

http://www.philkeenracing.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=14&Itemid=49

and he is quite short...

I had lunch with him at the Brit car 24hr when top gear raced....

He wasnt the only stig. There would have been times when his racing commitments etc may have got in the way.

For example - my old bosses son wore the suit http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/3124558/Phil-Keen-has-already-doubled-for-The-Stig-is-tipped-as-replacement.html

and when the Lancia Stratos Kit was featured, the owner mentioned when defending the car (link will be somehere on here) that the Stig 'that day' being called 'Andy'

There was certainly more than one Stig! Unless Ben Collins knew how to make himself grow and shrink on a weekly basis!

Don't forget that most factory cars are driven by the companies own driver, not the stig.

Apart from 'Schumachergate', any back up behind that?

If they are using more than one, surely they must have two (or more) people of similar talent. I mean if the next Lambo is 5 secs quicker than the last one it's got to be a fair test, right? (I guess lol)

Considering the difference between a good racing driver and a great racing driver is tenths (when in the same car) then I would suggest the 'general' public wouldnt notice.
I also dont ever see any official timing gear on the cars or near the track, so if its 'stopwatched' they will never be that accurate anyway!

Anyone who is up to F1 standard is going to be able to get the car 'on the edge' where traction & general handling are the only limiting factors. Therefore any two F1 drivers are likely to get very similar times using the same car on the same track. That's why the Stig persona works so well - he doesn't really need a name, just the ability to test cars to the limit of their performance. You can have a whole load of Stigs available for any event at a moments notice

Raz

I know a couple of drivers who have been 'The Stig'. Ben Collins did all the run-of-the-mill stuff showy stuff, but when one of the big hitters (Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, etc.) had one of their cars going for a 'Power-Lap', then it was a driver of their choosing.

It's Evolution Baby!
