mazda mx5 donor

Hi I have an early jap import mk1 mx5. I would like to use it as a locost donor. I have bought the book How to build a sports car on a budget. I need to find out about the chasis alterations needed to fit the bits required. Many thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction. arfabee

Hi

Good choice.

I have a build thread on here that outlines the changes I had to make. There is also a new kit available from Saturn if you want to do it the easy way.

I've got a little black book with my poems in!

Have you looked at the MEV Exocet? A marmite look, but an economical use of an MX5!! Could use the same idea and adapt?

There is an American book called 'How to build a cheap sports car' (I think) which covers building a Locost 7 from an MX5 (Miata) donor car.

Basically the American version of the Haynes roadster book.

ETA: here it is:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Build-Cheap-Sports-Motorbooks-Workshop/dp/0760322872/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1300292088&sr=8-1

I didn't pay £64 though, think I got it off ebay for about £5

The Williams book is IMO just a build diary on using a MX5 in a Champion build.
Less actual info than the original Champion book.
Borrow the book, don't buy it :-)
I find this forum has Loads more useful information... just less that's mx5 specific.

Give chris a ring at MNR. They do a budget kit for the mazda mx5. The chassis they produce is by far the best on the market. I know first hand as i used to weld them.
