uneven pinto idle

My standard injection pinto wont idle steadily. It keeps hunting up and down the revs. What could be causing this?
I have been told it may be the idle control valve which has a problem and will be removing it and giving it a clean but should i check anything else.

Clean the idle controle valve and the throttle butterfly with carb cleaner. If that doesn't help check for inlet air leaks.
