IVA- Steering and Fuel tank.
Two problems that we have come across recently during our 'locost' build....
Firstly- We have ben told by a few people that the collapsable part of our steering column has collapsed, obviously this would be a fail for the IVA.
I took the column of our un-crashed Sierra donor in its current state and we have also been to our local scrappies and the column he showed us had the
same problem. So the question is.. Is it nakkered or not?!
Also- A local Westie builder saw me working away in the garage (as ya do) and he was talking about a fuel tank protection bar, to stop the tank being
pushed into the diff. However, we are using an Atlas Axle and the anti-tramp bar seems to do just as good a job as a secondary bar inbetween would do.
Could I get away with this or not?
Its not the best angle of picture to understand what im talking about!!
(ignore the cable tied handbrake cables and the lack of tank straps!)
Any help would be much appreciated as per usual guys!

Steering looks the same as mine
The triangler section at the end goes in and out btw

I note you have the adjustable type steering column. My adjustable column looks like that too and as far as I'm aware it's OK.
I'm a bilingual illiterate. I can't read in two languages.

Thats kinda what I thought, every car that we looked at at Newark show looked the same. But theres been a few people that said it would fail an IVA.

As long as those "few" people aren't IVA inspectors I wouldn't worry mate!

Haha, Ill let you know in a few months when my fail sheet appears on here 
Anyone have any ideas about the diff/ fuel tank!?

I also thought I had a problem with this... But.
The Haynes manual shows both types of columns pictured above.
I do not remember the difference in the type, but once I saw it was meant to be like that I stopped worrying about it.
Take a manual with you or scan, copy or photograph the relavent page.

As for the tank, With the iva comming in "They" wanted protection of the tank from the rear. The steel hoops under the rear tub as per
"book"are said to be acceptable and not just the tub clipped to the chassis at the rear bulkhead.
Best contact Mk or the likes that did it this way as this could well have changed allong with the enclosed exhaust and other bits. There have been
lots of little changes, some better, some worse. Also each vosa centre may interpret the rules differantly.
I added the metal work incase.

My column is the same as yours. Isn't the collapsable bit the triangular part?

Yep, pretty sure you're right. Mines the same too, I think the triangular part slides in when collapsed, and can be re-extended.
Not 100% sure though?
