Zetec EEC-V ECU

Hi

I am new to the forum on the basis I guess you guys know more about Zetec engines than most.

I am currently building a VW camper and have grafted a 2.0 ltr Zetec engine onto the vw gearbox but now want to get it running!!

I guess from reading some info on the net that the easy way out is to go and buy an aftermarket ECU and some throttle bodies £1000or more later I may be in action. But I am not after all out power just anything more reliable than a VW air cooled engine and a bit more power to keep up with monder trafic.

I understand that it is relatively simple to get the engine running on the earlier EEC-IV ecu but in my ignorance I bought a low milage engine out of a later Mondeo automatic with a EEC-V ECU. I have got the keys and the chip so I guessit can be made to run on the original ECU. I think the ECU controls the alternator as well so I could reuse the alternator. I plan to get rid of the power steering pump and Air con pump.

I have managed to find this list of pinouts for the EEC-V ECU. Can anyone advise which ones are essential, nice extras and not really required.

Any other hints would be greatly appreciated. I also read somewhere that the Ford ECU is very versitile and will also sort its life out and run throttle bodies rather than the std throttle body.

Anything else I need to get it running? Does the ECU need any mods?

Thanks for help

Hello and welcome to the fountain knowledge commonly known as the Madhouse

Where are you based ? Put your location in your profile as you will get locals willing to help.

Prime example is me ! I have a Mondeo Zetec running it's original ECU (I didn't build the car
though) and you are more than welcome to come and crawl over the car and take as many
notes as you want.

A lot of the stuff on your EEC V will be to do with the auto box, if it was me I would look for an EEC IV from a manual car and the attendant wiring, I would think a lot of scrap yards have older Zetec's. HTH Ray

To make a car go faster, just add lightness. Colin Chapman - OR - fit a bigger engine. Chippy

I have been looking at the Loom where it connects with the ECU and the colours of the wires to the pinouts pinouts do not match !
