Honda CRV & Toyota Rav - Anybody Had One ?
Just thinking, has anybody had either a Honda CRV or a Toyota Rav ?
Petrol or Diesel but probably the Diesel version/s to be honest
Anything break or fall off ?
The performance figures look better on the Honda tbh and the reviews seem good aswell
Any opinions or advice welcome

You need to drive them.
IMHO the RAV 4 drives a lot better.

Guy at work has the CRV petrol, likes it a lot, nothing has fallen off yet.
Im interested in this post too, as these cars are on my list of possibles. Not fancy a Grand Vitara ?

Funny enough i missed the Suzuki grand vitara off the thread

I have heard nothing bad about the CR-V & HR-V --- research the model range out careful not all are 4x4
The Toyota Rav Diesel only seems to suffer from glow plug failure and like most recent Toyotas piston slap at around 80,000 miles onwards if the
servicing has been neglected (change oil frequently and use only 5w/30 fully synthetic you can get the official Toyota oil very cheap on Ebay)
Both hold their money well, auction prices are high for clean examples.

I know that toyota diesel's tend to crack the engine block in a frontal accident. (generally you are not aware of this until after you start it
post repair).
I know tha doing a clutch on a RAV4 is a pain in the ........ ....... .
Personallly I would go the Suzuki or the Honda route. My brother has just bought a Honda and he loves it.
Beware of the Goldfish in the tulip mines. The ONLY defence against them is smoking peanut butter sandwiches.

Got a generation 2.5 CRV. The abs/esp pump died a couple of months after I got it, but Honda replaced it FOC even though the car was out of warranty.
They had a faulty batch apparently.
A couple of things i have read about are the clutch pedals start squeaking, and the clutches in the rear diff can need burnishing if the oil is not
changed on schedule.
Apart from that its a good car with with advantage of AWD when needed.

got a 2.2 cdti crv.
good bit of kit
tried the rav 4 and was uncomfortable driving with my long legs
I'd love to give my imaginary friend a great big hug,
but this jacket makes it impossible.

I have a 2006 (registered in 2007) CRV diesel.
Had it from new and only 3 problems in the first 50,000 miles. (Now done 90,000)
1) Electric wing mirrors - they slowly crept forwars too much. Warranty replacement.
2) Rear diff groaning when in reverse - warranty Oil change as it was before the first scheduled oil change.
3) VSA unit failed - distribution thingymabob part of the ABS - warranty replacement.
I do mainly motorway commuting and get a real 45-50 mpg - not relying on the computer values as it
exagerates by about 5 - 10 %.
I also use it to tow my caravan and still get about 30mpg.
I am only just on my second set of tyres. 50,000 on my first set and just changed 2 more at 90,000.
My version has a 100kg hitch load, previous versions only had a 50kg limit. - towing limit of 1500KG.
The new CRV, 2007 and 0n, has a towing limit of 2000kg for the manual and 1500kg for the auto.
The new ones also have an option for an anti sway unit which utilises the ABS system to assist in towing
if the trailer starts to swing.
The normal cruise controls etc are available, but the new one again has the option of 'adaptive cruise' which slows
you down if you catch someone up when on cruise and holds you at there speed - at a selectable distance
until you pull out to pass or they turn off - spooky but fun.
Seats are a bit firm on mine, but quite comfortable never the less.

I had an 08 plate CRV 2.2deisel. Did 100,000 miles and got through 2 drive shafts. The dealer said it was not uncommon. Bar that no other problems.
SAT nav was excellent. I have a VW Amarok now and the SAT nav is pure rubbish.

Looks like the Honda is well worth a better look
Have to say a mate has one at work and he's on his second one now and rates them very highly
Had a trip in an 09 plate full spec Range Rover yesterday and it was lovely 
Errrr bit out of my price range though

My brother has a newish diesel CRV. had no problems with it. He is a shed dragger. He wishes he could have hung on to his old Ford Galaxy though he
says it was a better all round car and better fuel consumption as well.
