Fine for motoring offence V's Hasrasment, Theft and more

Looking through my local rag to see if anyone I knew had had a brush with plod and to my horror a bloke jumping a red light ( not a good thing to do, dangerous etc) got 3 points and a total of £365 in fines.
Now to my point
Other misdiminers and there total fines

Harassment £145
Theft £160
Theft. £150
Threatening Behaviour £230

Totally biased the wrong way IMHO

Does seem excessive, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone done for jumping lights, and it's something I see far too much of every day (I came close to being run over twice yesterday on my way to sainsburies).

To be fair aswell we don't have any specifcs there, and I'm guessing they wouldn't publish full reports in the paper so the penalties might have been perfectly reasonable or even excessive with regards to theft if it was a very minor theft.

If you don't want to bge punished don't break the law, and before any one says, what if it changes as you go through, thats why you stop on orange.

'unless it's unsafe to do so'... earlier today I had an a-hole so close behind me that if I had stopped on orange (like I normally do) I would have had a SEAT on my seat. As you can probably guess he followed me through.

Going through a red light 1 second after it has changed to red.
Breaking into a pensioners house, scaring the living crap out of them and taking all their life savings.

Just two more examples at the other end of the spectrum.
We don't know the details on any of the reported crimes.

I could fill in the full details as reported for you
Just like to say that yes jumping a light is bad but he did not hit anyone, the theft crimes were petty, the harrasment and threatening behaviour were sustained I.e more than one incident against individuals

The level of fine is influenced by the level of (declared) income of the offender. Hence the disparity, I would suggest.

I agree - however the types of people most likely to Harass, theive or threaten are also least likely to be able to pay steep fines.
I do believe that jumping a red light should be heavily fined as should tailgating, both are dangerous and unneccesary.

i was going to say about a fine being linked to earnings - your average motorist probably earns around £25k a year (average wage rounded up for the poorest not driving), vs your typical antisocial offender who is likely to be a scrounger.

I jump lights from time to time but im well aware it has potential to go wrong in many different ways, would agree it is dangerous and should be penalised heavily to discourage people doing it.
