Aldon

Why Aldon, is it to replace an existing one?

no, it's because it's fitted with a motorcraft on at the moment and I suspect the advance is wrong.

Could have one in the garage "floating around".

Let me check. How much are these things worth these days?

OK Checked it out. I THOUGHT it came out of the xflow I have but not so sure now... ...dizzy drive not the same. It is a blade type drive rather than a geared drive on my xflow!!

The one I have (which I assumed was an Aldon) is a Lucas non-vacuum unit with the following numbers:

23 D4
41372 D
17 73

As far as I can work out. This is a cooper S or marina HC 1.3 unit but what I don't understand is that I have never had either of these cars. But also listed as compatible with RS1800 Twin Cams and some other Ford Stuff...

I will post some piccies if you think it is useful...

Andy

PS Have Aldon used Lucas dizzy casts as their own in the past???

thanks Andy, sounds like it's a Lucas but not a crossflow one. they were fitted to a lot of things with different drives. I'm sure if could be made to fit but would need the advance modifying most likely.
They used genuine Lucas bodies with their own bits I think, or more likely a stock genuine one as a donor.
I missed on on ebay on sunday evening, so they're about, just finding one. Last one on here was £50, last one i bought for the phoenix 2 years ago was £46.
I finally got the car running in the last hour, it's been lying idle for a good while, I suspect years! Seems to run ok, leaking rad and other issues but in the main ok

thanks kevin, yes I've seen them but I want one with the right advance for the cam, not just a stock one without vacuum

I am sure that I have a Aldon 103fx down the garage. But do not think that it has vacuum on it.

no it won't have, the spec for an 103FXY, and I need an FXY or FXYS is

"A non-vacuum distributor, which suits most tuned X/Flow engines using camshafts such as A2, BCF1, Piper 270,285, Kent 234,244 in conjunction with side draught carburettors. N.B. A vacuum unit must not be used when an engine is fitted with side draught carburettors. "
