ebay payment advice....
Just had an ebay payment (for some alloys)
The guy said he would send it as a gift, however, there is nothing on the email or my account to say it is a gift, and the usual bit at the bottom

things like chargebacks.
Does this mean he could say I never sent them etc and do a chargeback? Getting worried, but the wheels are not getting collected until tomorrow.
He hasn't sent me his address etc (yet) and is arranging collection via paisley freight.
Obviously if the payment can be reversed I need to have all the tracking data etc.
Any advice would be good. I had assumed it would say the payment was a gift...........

Phone paypal & ask all your questions.
I always thought that if it was sent as a gift
they could not claim it back.
But check to make sure .

It always says that on paypal transactions. Just make sure you get a receipt signed by the courier and that there is tracking info etc.
As long as you can prove they were picked up, then there's nothing to worry about.
Check your paypal balance, if the full amounts there it was a gift, if there's a 3.4% missing then it wasn't sent as gift

Look at your statement and see if you've been charged a fee, if not it was gifted.
Similarly, (I think) if it's paid as a gift, you dont get to see their address.
I guess the theory is you would not need any protection for a gift?
The reversal statement is normal paypal (non) protection, but as above I think you cant have it both ways
I expect Paypal may tell you youre a naughty boy

Get ye mrs to film him from window like CCTV when he turns up n get his car reg.
Ask him for Id to collect like driving licence n sign for collection.
Still a risk when it's a gift but that should stop any funny business

If he is collecting the wheels then you will have no proof of delivery and he can just say to PayPal that you never sent them to - they will just
give him his money back.
I only accept cash if selling with collection only.
You have been warned . PayPal and collections is a minefield.
Edited to add: if it was me I would refund his money and only accept cash. If he kicks up then cancel the transaction. This is a classic scam and you
are about to lose your wheels.

If the buyer is genuine it is in your benefit to have the payment as a gift as it avoids you paying any fees. The buyer actually has less rights
sending as a gift also as they can not contest not receiving goods etc because according to PayPal it is a gift and not a purchase of goods.

If their collecting in person then cash or bank transfer imho
Paypal/Ebay always seem to favor the buyer and not the seller....

Why has no one noticed he collecting via courier!
He's done the right thing, paid by PayPal, organised a courier to collect. Even been kind enough to paid by gift (still needs checking).
Hope I never have to buy something from you lot it's not worth the hassle!

Ben, having been the victim of this very scam I can assure you anything you or anyone else buy from me not posted is cash on collection full stop.
They may be been collected by a courier with online tracking, if so great however they may be collected by a mate in a van.

thanks for the replies.
I listed wheels on ebay, he asked for a BIN and I agreed a price if paid as a gift and he collected.
The money has arrived with no deductions, so looks like a gift then. I am getting the tracking info too, so that should cover it all (I hope)

You still need to cautious with a gift, it can stll be reversed, it happened to me with some brakes I sold

Every day is a schoolday.
They can't surely say non-delivery of goods or whatever though, as it is a gift?? (double checked with paypal, and it was a friends/family gift

You could get that on anything you sell on ebay then, no ones safe. We best all stop using ebay and paypal just incase

That's exactly what I have done, I don't sell anything on EBay now, I still use it to buy bits and pieces though

I certainly wouldnt accept paypal for anything. I once sold a sierra on ebay and the guy paypal'd immediately, i declined it and told him it was
cash only - explained to him how easy it is to get scammed that way, he was amazed. Maybe thats one more guy who will avoid getting robbed now.
I would still sell on ebay, but it would be cash on collection, no delivery.
Beware! Bourettes is binfectious.
