Chassis/engine change

I'm pretty sure this is possible, but can I change my chassis and engine at the same time?

The chassis will still be a Westfield one, but the engine type will change.

Well, I know that you can change a chassis, hell Wheeler Dealers even advertised it when doing their TVR build!

From what I believe, I will need a garage to sign off on the engine/chassis change and the V5 will then reflect this.

The gearbox, drivetrain, interior, suspension, brakes, body, wheels etc will be placed on the new chassis.

I can't see a problem with this, provided the new chassis retains the identity of the old chassis. When our old man wrote off our first Indy, this is precisely what we did. Replaced the chassis 'like for like', retained the chassis identity and changed the engine at the same time. We even arranged for a Vehicle Identity Check (VIC) prior to the car going back on the road but was refunded the money and advised the vehicle did not require a VIC, as no marker had been placed on the vehicle by the insurance company. We didn't even require a letter confirming the engine change but I suspect this is because we went from 900cc to 1200cc.

Well, the engine will be going from 2 litre to 2 litre so I can't see a change in tax from that!

as there wont be a change in tax or engine size i wouldn't even bother telling them about the engine change. i only did mine to get the cheaper tax for a bike engine a few years ago. it was only correct for a few months and has had 2 engine changes since.

Will your new chassis get the original number stamped on it or would it come from the factory with a new number already assigned? Myself I'd want to stamp the same number on the new chassis and not even tell dvla, no need to complicate it.

Definitely not illegal but I would also make sure that the old chassis gets throughly destroyed.

I would have said only possible if it doesn't need a VIC as they check engine number at VIC don't they?

They check the engine number with that on the VIC form, not what's detailed on the V5C.
