Merc e320?

Whilst still on the lookout for a bigger more spacious tow car I read this weeks auto car mag and it recommended a Mercedes e320 diesel as a very good reliable motor. To my amazement a car around 10 years old, circa 2004-2005 with full history and <80k can be had for a touch over £4k!
I'm assuming running costs will be relatively high but are there any issues with these cars? And should they be avoided?
If so I'm happy to go for a seat, toyota avensis, passat or similar but thought I'd ask

I would like to see you buy one of these for that money with 80k on it, if it has that mileage for that price and that year it will be a wrong on

I had a 270 version. I put 100k miles on it over 3 years and the only money I spent on it was a broken spring and consumables. I seem to recall they need putting on the STAR machine to back off the calipers for a pad change but apart from that no big surprises.

Sounds to good to be true and that's ebay for you, Im a car dealer/garage and have had lots of these mercs over the years and Im driving an est at the moment.(not for sale) The only problems the E320 give are suspension problems if they have the air adjustable system £1000 a corner and the auto gearbox on the 04 onwards can be problematic (£2000 to fix min ) the best gearbox was fitted to the 210 model anything that is 211onwardes can give issues but not all of them.

Probably best avoided then as I can't afford repair bills that big!

my mate has an 06 E320 that just clicked onto 125k

Suspension has just been fully replaced at a ridiculous cost.
Turbo is in the process of being replaced after a solenoid failed that is part of the turbo assembly.
Auto box is also on its way out and will need a 2k fix soon.

not for me I don't think.
