hayabusa speed sensor orientation

I'm trying to set up the stock busa speed sensor on the front propshaft bolts. I was wondering if the bolts have to pass the sensor like the stock pick up would on the actual bike or if I can point the end of the sensor at the bolt heads?? Would it still pick up a signal in this orientation??

I would have thought this would work. I think the sensor just detects when something metal passes it so as long as it is positioned close enough, it shouldn't matter.

Think I will give it go, space is so tight in that area that mounting it like that will make things easier.
