FS: Sylva Striker

Hi Guys,

Kind of a feeler.....

I've been toying with the idea of a new project for a while, and depending on price, am thinking of returning to the world of roofs and doors.

So headlines will be:

Sylva Striker (IVA'd and registered in 2013)
2ltr Blacktop Zetec running on standard ignition and ECU
5 Speed Type 9
13" RS Alloys with R888's
JK Composite seats

Will be looking for around £5000

Will come with: full windscreen & wiper bits, side doors (need some work), some other random bits....

Bad bits:

Vibration over 70-80mph through transmission, not sure why
Bodywork is in "average" condition"
fuel gauge not working
speedo works fine but haven't got round to sticking the magnet on yet...

Anyway like i said, kind of a feeler, but if there's genuine interest and the price is right, it will go!

PICS TO FOLLOW

Regards,
Andy

The car has the two piece bonnet now, not the one shown in the first pic!

Hi Guys,

Well i've had a brand new prop made up, seems as though is has helped with the vibration a bit, but not completely cured.
Guessing next part is checking the mounts and then maybe look at the gearbox.

Anyway, if anyone is tempted by a project, it's still here and i am open to any offers from the peeps on LCB!

Cheers,
Andy

Hi there, you mentioned prop vibration - could that be something to do with how the engine is mounted?

From some of the photos it looks like the engine is pointing out towards the passenger side front wheel rather than being in-line with the centre of the car which I would expect (but correct me if I'm wrong) and perhaps this means that the prop is not as nicely aligned as it should be?

Just asking out of interest, not suggesting that there's definitely something wrong, that's just what I thought looking at the photos.

Hi,

The engine does point to the left, which is how Sylva/Raw design the Striker.
It is design to offset the weight of the driver with the engine.

There is a lot of debate around prop alignment, but again this is how the striker was designed for the Zetec and how all of the cars that come out of the factory are set up. I have spoken to Raw for some advice and they also use a standard prop with normal UJs at each end. I have replaced the prop, checked gearbox oil and gearbox mount. Also tried adjusting the engine mounts but no joy yet.

I plan to check the diff, driveshafts and rear wheels next, failing that maybe a new gearbox but i'm not sure this is the issue.

Fair enough. I figured that was probably the case but just wondered if that would increase wear to ujs and lead to vibration in the drive train. Often see engines canted over to the passenger side but I hadn't noticed them angled like this previously.

Thanks for explaining. I love the look of strikers and had some passenger laps round brands hatch a few years ago in a demo car running a 4age which was rapid. Always wondered why you don't see that many with zetecs (maybe they are out there and I just haven't noticed them coming up for sale?!).

Good luck with the sale!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the advice, just for your info i've spent some time on the car and have just about completely got rid of the vibration.
So far have done the following:

- New Propshaft
- Replaced Diff oil
- Replaced Gearbox mount
- Removed excess metal off the bellhousing (fouling on chassis)
- Replaced Gearbox oil
- Replaced engine mounts
- Fixed binding rear brake

I've decided to do a bit more work to the car, but will be back up for sale soon as i've decided i want a slight change....

Cheers,
Andy

Just to confirm on this for Pekwah and his sale, my striker was exactly the same in terms of engine angle:

Hi,

Very random but you wouldn't be interested in a Clio 182 and some cash your way would you? Sorry if a bit random, but if you don't ask...

Thanks for the interest, i'm actually looking to get a TVR so i'm afraid a clio won't cut it!
If you sell the Clio and are still interested give me a shout, although i'm afraid the price is likely to go up again in respect of getting the issues sorted.

I'll have a new advert once i've finished with it all.

Cheers,
andy
