Black top head on Silver top block ???
Dear collective
I am sure this question must have been asked before but I can not find a thread.
Given that hydraulic lifters are weaker than solids... is it possible to put a black top head on a silver top block ??
Or, can the hydraulic lifters be changed for solid ones ???

Yes you can fit black top on silvertop block and yes you can fit solid lifters

The blacktop head will bolt on
BUT
because the cam belt pulley arrangement of the 2 engines is entirely different some machining is required to provide mountings for the cam belt
tensioning pulley.
As for hydraulic lifters there is nothing wrong with them providing revs are kept below 7500 max. They will go higher but the reliability becomes
suspect.
Solids can be fitted to a Silvertop head, some Kent cams use them. Machining is required and again its not cheap.
Please tell us why you appear to be so anti hydraulic follower.

I am not anti hydraulic followers as such.
Depending on cam' and desired rev range.
This is more an attempt to re think a method that was alleged to have created some lap records of the past.
It is said that unbeknownst to others, an outwardly standard 1800 silver top had a very large cam fitted with solid lifters.
This revved past 8000rpm and was generally turned up to 11 on Spinal Tap scale.
All of the above is pure speculation and bares no resemblance to the facts.

Apart from lifters is there any other advantage to doing this?
