zetec cam belt tensioner

I have been looking at the engine today trying to trace a squeal coming from a bearing when I noticed that the tensioner marker is moving back and forward about 5 mm as the engine is running. I replaced the belt, later and tensioner only 300 miles ago. Is this normal?
