R1 Carbs I.D.

Hope this post finds those who have fitted R1 carbs.

How can you identify which version of this R1 engine the carbs were originally fitted to? Spacing appears to be :-
83 - 78 - 78, with the first dimension measured between first and second carbs, measured from the TPS end.

Have you been told the spacings are the difference between 4XV and 5JJ?

As I'm pretty sure the heads are the same on 4XV/5JJ and 5PW.

Also I measured the spacings on my head at 85-80-75?

They sound the same as mine which I measured as 76, 78, 83, which are supposedly 5JJ

Have carefully re-checked the centre dimensions between these carbs, from centre of each choke inlet.
Still get 83 - 76 - 77. The larger dimension is because the throttle cable actuation is positioned between these two carbs.
