Type 9 question

Whats involved in converting my XR 4x4 type 9 box to suit 2wd?(still using the V6) Can it be done at home or is it a specialist job?

It's not worth the hassle!! That's the answer in simple terms! It's much easier to put the heavy duty bits (input shaft, layshaft and bearings etc) from the 4x4 'box into a 4 cyl spec 2wd type 9, or just find a 2wd v6 'box from a 2.3 sierra (pretty rare now) or 2wd early granada or most likely, a 2.8 injection capri.

Certainly there's nothing to stop you getting a std type 9 and using the h/duty bits from your 4x4 box to put in it if you already have it!

A std type 9 shouldn't be more than £40 tops at the breakers, usually more like £30
