Exhausts for Rover V8 in CANAMSA

Finally finished!

Manifolds are MIG welded up from sections cut from 90 deg mandrel bends in 38 mm bore x 1.6 mm mild steel (used 26 of them) and laser cut 10 mm head flanges. Pipe welds metal finished flush. Each pipe is 850 mm long, (tolerance +/- 10 mm).

Length determined by using spreadsheet by Dave Ashurst on here

Collectors taper to 2.5", fabricated from 3" pipe.

Silencer cans are 500 mm long, made from 4" stainless thin wall tube, with 2.5" perforated tube inners.

Carbon steel parts sandblasted and painted with matt silver high heat paint.

Fitted to Engine.
Silencers will fit under rear body, with about 50 mm sticking out at the rear.

You can also (just about) see that I have relocated the alternator to left lower front of the engine, and removed the water pump. I will run an electric water pump.

So, now on to the next challenge.

Has inspired me to have another look at making the exhaust for my Pinto.

Is there anything going to support the back end when it in the car ?

Its just that there is a lot of overhang there and it would be a shame to see such a nice piece of engineering crack apart after a few hundred miles.

Yes, there will be a support frame with rubber mounts for the cans

I didn't use stanless as I am not set up to weld stainless, and this is all still a bit of an experiment. If it cracks up, repairs are a lot easier to hide under paint!

The stainless bends are also a lot more expensive.

Once I have the car running and all the bugs worked out, I plan to have the manifolds ceramic coated.
