windscreen and side windows choice?
Hi,
I'm developing my mid-engined car chassis and I'm wondering from which car I could use my windscreen and or side windows.
I thought I read once side windows can be cut by specialists and it's allowed by the SVA. Is this right?
For the windscreen it's more difficult.
I would like to find a windscreen which is lightly bulbed (not as much as the ultima or pagani) and which takes not the complete width of the car
(compare with Mclaren F1 or Pagani)
Suparuss told me he will be using a Lancia Stratos windscreen. I'm however not quite happy with those dimensions.
It is a good alternative but if I find something better I will be very happy.
Any help and idea is welcome

Funny I've been looking at windscreens recently for my build to.... Would be really interested to know what you finally come up with and why.
Have you thought about the windscreens from some people carriers? I've looked at a few and for my build at least they seem that they MIGHT be an
option.

The FTO looked promising earlier in my planning..... others would be the elise, various fiats etc.
I'm using an old supra screen as its wide & lightly bowed and suits my low slung angle of my large GT car.

how about looking at rear hatches? im shure it could be used as a windscreen, just have to get around the heating element. try looking at the
demensions of an rx7 or porsche 944 rear hatch, fliped around or whatever. aftermarket companies also make these in lexan.

Rear hatches are no option in most cases because it's security glass and not laminated glass.

I've just checked your propositions and I found some new possibilities.
First of all the supra is a nice alternative although it's a little bit to wide. The Mitsubishi FTO is not available in Europe I think (I can be
wrong).
The Elise's windscreen is too small and the speedster is just the limit. The MR2 is too straight.
By looking at the MR2 I came across the Celica. This windscreen looks very promising.
The MGF is a nice thing but I think it's to small as well.
Any comments are still welcome.

The smart ForTqo windcreen is not too wide but is very long. Good if you want it to lean back a lot.

I've also been looking around for suitable windscreens and was wondering if there are any sites that give accurate (or even approximate)
dimensions of windscreens, because I'm sure most of us don't have access to the cars mentioned in order to measure the windscreens

I've been checking this out and it is a really nice solution indeed.
I don't know what is costs but the complete window/glass set is available for £395 or $593 ( http://www.tornadosportscars.com )
I was told the Stratos replica windshield is about £350
I will probably design with both solutions and see what's the best.

How about Citroen AX or Fiat Cinquecento?
They are small, but still as wide as the Stratos example

On my travels today I noticed that the Honda prelude has a good screen or maybe the TT......
I still think the FTO fits the bill well.... it doesn't matter whether they are a UK car or not as long as you can get the glass for a realistic
price.

Are you able to provide me with a CAD drawing for the FTO windscreen?
BTW I 've got a reply from Tornado and they have their screens on stock they sell it for £295 + VAT.

I've been wondering.
What about the Dodge Viper windscreen?
Do someone know where to get them?
I've also found out about the new car from Factory Five in the US.
Really nice car. It's called GTM.
That car has a very nice windscreen. I contacted them about it and I'm waiting for an answer.
