Wow what a cool car!

Ok, maybe it's because I live in the US, but this particular car design really struck a chord with me. At initial glance it seems extremely well thought out. My personal preference would be to place a high revving bike engine in the back, but I can really sense that this would be an enjoyable car to drive.

Opinions?

That chassis could lead to a beautifull boat tailed roadster.

This is all I've got. http://www.twintechcars.com/

The creator is Dave Piontek of www.Funcar.com. He emailed me a few days ago after he found my website. Seems like a decent guy.

Very nice...... apart from that fuel tank.

Looks like something off a lawnmower.

Dave Piontek's the same engineer that designed the "Sportech", a mid-mounted bike-powered two seater. As a product the Sportech seems to have faded away. Back when I was interested in it, the only sales guy was in Hawaii, and that he/they ended up only making it available to educational institutions(?)

I even have a promo tape around here... I think it was around $30K, another kitcar few (6?) could afford. There's a lesson here in all the out-of-business car companies...

Oh yes, And it's very nice. But you know, the Atoms frame shape doesn't really 'do' it for me. I think I actually like the twintech frame design better. I'm more traditional maybe?

And I do see some boat-tail influence there. In fact, the whole design is working off the retro-rod theme. The flat black finishes, the street-rod inspired fuel tank, the small lights, the windshield-lets (what do you call those?) It's really well thought out IMHO.

Not so sure about the bracing for the roll hoops tho... won't those fold over pretty easily?

The SporTech was designed in 1992. A bit ahead of it's time. There is a website http://www.funcar.com . I understand that 6 were sold and the asking price was around $50K (just googled it so that could be wrong). The body was also then used for the T-Zero all electric car. http://www.acpropulsion.com/tzero_pages/tzero_home.htm

Grinnal scorpion has single rear wheel drive from a rear mounted BMW motor doesnt it?

Like the overall look but would prefer the rear/mid mounted bike engine version without the body...

With the body it just looks like another budget sportscar... without it looks like something far cooler...

I am very surprised none of the kit car manufacturers in the UK have done something ariel atomesqe with a rear mounted motorcycle engine... perhaps we will see one soon...

I think it is a good compromise betwen a Atom and a Locost ...mid engin it should be like g.man said

Like the retro look cues from morgan trikes, hotrod, etc...

anyone tried to skin a locost from the inside ?
i like the look of exposed tubes and minimal bodywork..a revamped locost maybe. it needs something done at the front the V bar /bumper don't do it for me... we have to see what is going to happen with it pricewise... it can be a hit...

Quite like it. I think it looks more of a proper car than the Atom and I prefer the aesthetics of the chassis design. I agree with G-man though, it deserves a rear/mid engine. This would also allow a better looking front end to be designed.

Yep, I definitely like it.

After careful examination It seems to use alot of bike parts (brakes) and some custom parts which are not very locost. As for performance it Needs a proper bike engine...Harley's dont'make much power in standard form.

Anyone has an idea of the gearbox used ?
By the look of it what weight do you guess?

I quess the problem is with Niche marketing and the cost of produceing a few models...I like the twintech car nice.....but is it worth 30k? Well designed and looks well thought out...SIGH.

I just got a bunch more photos from Dave Piontek and a LOT more information about the car. I am asking for his permission to post them here. Believe me on closeup inspection the car is a jewel. Aparently it will be sold at Harley dealerships in a custom chopper (think whatever the client wants) format. Almost all the bits are bespoke and out of the highest quality materials. The engine is a highly modified 125 cubic inch (big dollar) unit that puts out over 125Lb/ft torque. Car weighs under 1,100Lbs. he says it's a big problem to keep from smoking the tires.

I can say from the photos I have that the transmission is integral to the rear diff in a manner similar to a Corvette (or Alfa Romeo?). Diff looks like a quick change unit as well, with a seperate oil cooler. I assume that there is a driveshaft directly off the crank back to the transaxle.

USA has no SVA issues, life is much easier for us in that way.

The interior photos show a great amount of restraint on the designers behalf with a simple curved carbon fiber dash, some useful instrumentation and a very simple t-bar shifter on the center console. Maybe it is an automatic? Don't know. I can't imagine that it is sequential.

What's very unusual is that I can't see how the cycle wings are attached. If I can post his photos you will see what I mean. There are no front or vertical stays...

Not literally, but there's the Highway Patrol Safety inspection which I think is similar but not as strict.

About the stays, if there are no supports, then it's just promo pictures where they're set in place... loose.

I like the car, but like eveyone else says, the wrong engine's at the wrong end. But, if people buy it, it doesn't matter... though at I'm guessing, $50K again, it's not going to go far. If people want a Harley, I really think they want a motorcycle.
