Stripping down a sierra column?

Hias anyone stripped down the top part of a sierra steering column? I don't need any of the lock or stalks etc and most of that alloy bit at the top looks like it could be stripped away so I could get the clocks into the dash better. Anyone any photos ?

I think mot ppl just hacksaw the casing off so u leave what u want with enough left to still mount it

did this job last weekend --hacksaw, grind sand , polish still to come
