Daily driver for mum ???

Hi,

My mums after a new daily driver to replace her 206 HDI.

Small size and economy a must.

3 or 5 door hatchback type.

Must be very economical.

About 150 motorway miles a week.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Cheers,

Pat...

My mum recently bought a Yaris and she said it was the best car she has EVER EVER had!! She is thrilled to bits with it.

My mums got a Yaris too. She loves it and gets 50mpg av. It never goes above 60 and about 3k revs though unless me or my dad is driving.

I would look at the new VW Polo. Very good deals on them at the mo. And fantastic little cars. The diesels are superb.

Recently being outsold by the new Mitsubishi Colt which is better... and looks better IMO.

As Toyota are loosing market share to Mitsu you may get a cracking deal on a Yaris then

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a
car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

if she wants a low cost, new small car, and not too concerned about size on motorway, why not look at the pug 107, citroen c1 and toyota aygo (all around 6,500) if shes buying new. They do ballistic mpg - look it up . (all same car in different guises)

Also, citroen have a deal on the c2 at the mo for 6,700 and a c3 is 7k.

My local ex rover dealer has a few brand new rover 214 in silver, full leather, alloys, lekky windows, roof, central locking and a year dealer warranty for 6,500. Thats great value.

from personal experience, Clio diesels.

Great MPG, great crash survivability, go pretty quickly if you get the high bhp one.

Seat Ibiza...

You'll have trouble getting more car for your money.

Reasonably good MPG, Very responsive, Well built (for a production economy car). I've had mine for 3 years now and the biggest fault I've foudn with it is that the glove box could be bigger (solved on more recent models).

Seat are also VERY good when it comes to after sales service. Something that can't be said for certain other unnamed manufacturers.

Who the f**K tightened this up!

With my 1300cc Yaris (petrol), I would be annoyed if I got less than 35mpg, even though my daily drive is a 6-mile sprint round country lanes (stop-start, rarely in 5th). On a long drive on motorways, etc. I generally get just under 50mpg.

Servicing is relatively cheap (on a par with Ford), at fairly long intervals. General spares fairly cheap, but things like alternators can be expensive.

I'd probably have another...

Another vote for the Yaris.

I have a Corolla T-Sport. Cracking build quality although I don't get 50MPG.

After seeing my Corolla a mate bought a Yaris and is thrilled with it.

Just don't expect a thrilling and innovative interior design... it just doesn't happen inside Toyotas!

But on the other hand the interior is solid, fits well and does the job exactly as it should. Although a bit bland.

I had a Seat Ibiza for a courtesy car and was quite impressed with it.
The 1.2 petrol engine evan had quite a throaty induction roar above 4000rpm!
