Bombers over Britain

There's a techie site called The Register, who have been running a competition to see who can spot aeroplanes in flight using Google Earth.

This one I like!

(You've need Google Earth loaded on your PC before clicking on the link).

Time to get the tin hats on?

David

Do you know how you make a web link which goes straight to a specific location as this one does? I want to add one to the Harewood Hillclimb site but couldn't figure how to do this.

1. Copy your link (URL) that you want to navigate to
2. Click the hyperlink button under the font's dropdown. (Earth with a chain-link on it)
3. Name your link in the 1st box (Can be anything you want)
4. Paste your saved link in the 2nd box (URL)

Now should work.

You Should end up with this Andy

Harewood Hill Link

Do you mean go to the hillclimb 'internet' site or the actual hillclimb site on google earth?

The hillclimb viewed in google earth (google earth required!) can be found by using the following kmz link:

http://www.god-speed.co.uk/harewoodhillclimb.kmz

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a
car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

Thanks Mr G - that does work but opens initially in winzip, which gives a link which I can then use to open Google Earth directly to the Harewood location.

What I really want is something like David Jenkins has posted as it goes directly to the location and opens Google Earth.

I want to put the link on the Harewood website so visitors can see the venue and play around with it in Google Earth.

Just noticed they were cutting the grass in the paddock when the shot of Harewood was taken. I think it was probably taken some time during 2004 as the last corner had lost the gravel trap which I think was done for that season.

That link does boot straight into google earth and then fly in on harewood - It's your pc that's causing the problem!

You must of installed winzip or another utility that has associated the .kmz file with winzip. You need to go into my computer>tools>folder options>file types and associate .kmz with google earth again (or a re-install of google earth might do it)

Anybody with google earth confirm the link boots it up ok?

EDIT: I've put http:// in the address to see if that makes any difference.

Cheers

Well, I can't see any MOON LANDERS anywhere.

I reckon the shadows don't look right either.

It's clearly a multi-billion dollar conspiracy.

This country is littered with grassy knolls.

They know, you know.

Strange - i've just tried it on a different pc and get exactly the same result. I have checked and .kmz and .kml files are both associated with Google Earth.

How did you create and post the link anyway?

Sorry Andy, that was your original question and i've not explained it.
I take it you will be able to upload the .Kmz file to the harewood website.

Select the location and view you want from Google Earth

Click the Add a placemark icon:

From the popup menu, select Placemark

Enter a suitable description in the New Placemark dialog:

Click Ok. The placemark is stored on the map.
Right click this new placemark, and from the popup menu, select Save As

Now just save the file somewhere you will remember (best to keep the filename simple) and then upload it to your webspace.

Then its only a matter of putting a link on the website to the file i.e

Cheers

G

I recon some of these images are pretty old, my house must be before I moved in, nearly 2 years ago as the cars are different and there's no garage! also a road of new houses down the road doesn't exist either..

Apparently the photos can be as much as five years old, partly due to the sheer
quantity of images to update and partly due to security reasons. (oh look, the
flags up, Queenie's home). This is what I read in an article about GEarth in BBC
Focus magazine. It also said that the highest resolution images are of the Google
Campus where you can see the word GOOGLE on the trampoline in the
garden. Doesn't look much like a trampoline to me though, but the fact you can
see tables nd chairs is pretty
impressive.
Can't get a direct link to work but if you paste these co-ordinates in to the 'fly to'
box and zoom in.........
