alloy uprights
hi everyone, hope you are all keeping well?
after spending a day in the garage cleaning up the drive flanges and cv joints, i took a look at the state of my sierra uprights and thought that
another day of this will kill me, so i turned to the holy one, aka the wallet to see if i could sneak in some alloy uprights for my DAX instead of
using the sierra ones from my donor.
i e-mailed racelega and they sent me these pictures of these alloy uprights that they do
he says that they are on special offer this month, according to brian they retail about £325 but if you order by the end of march he will do them for
£199.
do you think it may be worth getting some? what affects will they have on handling etc and can i use them as a direct replacement for my donor
uprights?
all advice is greatly welcomed

The 199 is a good deal. raceleda uprights are quite nice.
however, raceleda doesn't make a sierra upright. if your car is made for sierra stuff, no it won't be a direct swap. The kpi of the
cortina stuff is 4.8deg vs. the ~15deg for the macpherson based sierra stuff.
Raceleda ALSO make granada based hub, which is a better swap, since the kpi of granada stuff is 7-8deg, which is much better in terms of scrub radius
than the cortina stuff, also. However, you still will likely need some modifications.
I actually have been strongly considering the raceleda stuff for about 4 months. Too bad i didn't find out about this deal earlier, since i just
bought some sprint car racing uprights that i am going to fit for my sierra based bones.

That does look like a Sierra Hub though and not like the current Raceleda Cortina replacement.

That is not a Cortina,Escort and I don't think it is Granada after looking on the
Raceleda Website. What do you get for your £199.00? Is it just
the alloy casting or does that include the 2 steel steering arms and 4 rose joint carriers. I am interested in a set.

The website isn't updated very often.
I believe Bruce does produce Sierra specific uprights. Always best to phone and confirm of course.

Its definately not the Granada upright as the Granada upright looks very similar to the Cortina one.

yep they are the sierra ones, only the upright is ally the hubs come from your existing donor ( steel ), i know cause we have some of these as we
distribute a fair amount of the raceleda stuff
there is a limited no. of these 20 i think

I'd expect that is a 'per pair' price. The bare castings wouldn't be more than £25 each, from quotes I've had lately for
similar work.

Yes, now that i look more closely, the pics do look different from normal raceleda stuff.
That is interesting, since i have exchanged multiple emails w/ Bruce from raceleda, and made it very clear that my bones were made for sierra stuff,
and he never once mentioned he had sierra uprights. in fact, at one point he was describing how i would need to extend the top bone to handle the
difference in kpi!!!

Alloy Uprights
If these are to be purchased as a weight saving option i would think twice.
Admitedly im running im running mk 3, 4, 5 Cortina setup on my westfield, by doing some work on the upright, removing excess material and casting
marks, these can be made close to the weight of alloy uprights
There is a far greater weight saving on alloy hubs over alloy uprights.

Sierra hubs are totally different to Cortina hubs, there's no comparison. The Cortina hub is a lump of metal compared to a Sierra one whereas
the Cortina upright is more elegant.
