zetec 1.8 or 2.0
i am gathering the bits for a transplant to a zetec with throttle boddies or bike carbs
i have been offered in exchange for a job either a good 1.8 or a not as good 2.0
but cant decide which one, any advice?
am i right in thinking most people fit the 1.8 is this right and if so why?
thanks Jambo.

If you get the 1.8 from an Escort it will have the correct water pump etc. fitted as standard. The flywheel is also lighter and they produce simmilar
power to the 2.0l but a bit less torque.

No replacement for displacement
Get the 2.0L
Water pump (escort) £15 - always buy it new! - bolts straight on
1.8 flywheel is indeed lighter and can be sourced dirt cheap

If you believe you're not crazy, whilst everybody is telling you, you are - then they are definitely wrong!

Am I right in thinking that the 2.0 needs a new spigot bearing and things to make a RWD gearbox fit?
A 1.8 is an easier install, which is why many people choose them over the 2.0 but the 2.0 will have more go.

Spigot bearing is only about £9 from fords or elswhere
I would say the 1800 is an easier fit because as stated it comes with the right parts on it,also the 1800 has a slightly shallower sump and i have
heard of some builders using this sump to replace the 2 litre and avoid a costly chop.

You will need the spigot bearing whether you fit the 1.8 or 2.0.
Most 1.8 engines are the 115bhp version, rather than the 130 so you could be down on power before you start.
Whichever sump you use 1.8 or 2litre it has to be chopped and baffled otherwise you won't have an engine for very long... Running a RWD zetec
with a standard sump is a non starter i'm afraid.
Also fitting either engine really is a piece of pi$$.
Bolted the gearbox and engine together in under an hour and took all of 15mins to drop in and mount. Connecting ancilleries to either engine is the
same except as stated you will need to change the waterpump.
