I suppose it depends on what tuning you want to do.
With the T5 being Turbocharged the first point of call could be remapping or chipping for extra ponies
www.superchips.co.uk
or any other related company, there's loads in the back of car mags

Here's a few:-

http://www.volvospeed.com

It's a cracking motor that I am condidering for my next project. Being a five pot its probably a bit long / wide for a seven car but for a middy it would be ideal.

Cheers

I dunno, I have been looking wistfully at the five pot in my Fiat.. I reckon it would fit

Don't think the wife would be too impressed though

Get hold of Volvosport. He has an unnatural/unhealthy love of Volvos

And knows quite a lot too (from what he told us anyway)

I was very tempted to have a go at a Aeon with a T5 lump, until personal circumstances changed. You get LSD and close ratio gearbox in the package, and 300bhp is a mere chip-change away with the standard ECU. Torque is huge too.

The downside (from an admittedly cursory look) was that it wasnt the lightest engine in the world, and it looked fairly bulky. But with 300bhp, it can afford to carry a few spare lbs...

Try asking on the Swedish Locost forum international section . There should be plenty of knowledge there on how to tune the T5 engine.

I know of atleast one locost with the 5 cyl engine. But that website is down unfortenately

I owned a Volvo T5 for 6 years and along with a few others started a small volvo tuning craze in the UK. I used to run a website called T5UK.com (now a porn site I believe!) that was solely dedicated to performance tuning the Volvo.

The engine is fairly good but the weak link of the engine is the rods. These can stand upto 320bhp but more importantly they do not like high boost at low revs. they tend to twist.

there are various tuning companies for the engine still around and probably the best is based in Bromsgrove called chiptuning.co.uk -

Chiptuning

They use the RICA re-map (not chip) of the ECU and they are well known for getting good performance from an aggresive map.

(Ask for Adam or Hamish who races in the Jedi series and tell them Fraser put you in touch)

TME is a sweedish company that also provide a good re-map of the ECU.

Another good company is kalmar-union.com run by Don Norchi who also races a an S60 and S70.

Kalmar-union.com

Don't go for a 'chip'

The Turbo on the later version of the engines is bigger and better - The V70 AWD having a mitsubishi 19T is the best.

Engines also respond well to water injection.

My car was rolling roaded and gave 340bhp with a fairly gentle map to stop the rods twisting and the tyres shredding!
