Someone told me they'd gone over to MNR now? Rumours or truth, never can tell the difference!

Raceleda website doesn't work anymore

I have emailed MNR, i feel bad pestering them about it as its obviously not their problem.

I ordered an upright kit and everything arrived apart from the ally calipers, which is the only part i actually needed! Included a note saying 'calipers to follow', but that was about 6 weeks ago now.

Why do discontinued websites make me so nervous?!

Like I said - someone told me MNR had taken them over. If so, your order probably got lost in the crossover.

However, this sort of thing is something that's pressing on my nerves at the moment - this is a hobby iondustry that's turning over big money, so it's about time the company's starting treating us as customers!

I'm going to assume from the above that dealing with Raceleda directly was not the best of customer service?

not at all, very friendly chap but once id paid and worked out the vat i realised that MNR were cheaper. He remembered me over a few calls and the vast majority of it arrived within a week. But then after 2 weeks of waiting on the calipers i rang and have had no answer since! lol. Hopefully just bad timing, time will tell!

Good - it's the first big upgrade I'll be making to my car once it's built, some lightweight uprights.

Bit of a cornered market though - not too many available for sierra replacement (ST have something on their website for cortina uprights that looks very tasty!).

Had a quick word with Marc who is obviously busy getting ready for the show this weekend.

Mentioned this post so I am sure he will be on to put the record strait - watch this space I suppose.

Syd has already seen it.

MNR next if they don't get those uprights properly tested and certified.

Or mark them as 'For Offroad Use Only , Not Certified For Use On Public Roads.'

Then it's the user who takes on responsibility, and his insurance company.

Cheers,
Syd.

Aftermarket alloy versions of safety critical components like this do worry me a bit, it would only takes a wrong/missing radius on a stressed location to cause a fatigue failure. However, the weight savings are very attractive.

Out of interest what are your opinons on the alloy hubs? I've not heard of any failures and I guess they have been around long enough.

I've seen cast hubs disintegrate. When inspected afterwards, the granulation was clearly in evidence.

Most hubs that I am aware of are machined from 6061 or better bar stock, and don't suffer the same problem to anywhere near the same extent. I've not seen a bar originated hub let go in my work, but cast certainly. When given a pounding, the bar items usually flog the bearing housings out and show up as bad knocking and wobble/vibration.

And, if a hub lets go, the outer nut will usually stop any catastrophe. Whereas, if an upright breaks, you're a passenger in an inevitable accident.

Cheers,
Syd.

Are Westfield uprights suitable replacements for Cortina or Sierra parts?

"Aluminium front uprights fitted with new calipers and standard discs and pads"
£628.95

"Aluminium front uprights left and right fitted with new AP calipers, vented discs and pads"
£1111.63

Hi Yes but westfield got them certificated before they sold any. And this is why they are so big and cumbersum and are barly any lighter that thier steel counterparts.

cheers matt
