escort 3.54 lsd

Currently have a 3.9 diff and need to sort a 3.54 and am thinking might try and get a lsd sorted while its out.

How many people are running a lsd in a english axle and what diff have you gone for quaife tran-x ?

It all seems expensive stuff and would love to hear what others are doing.

3.54 English diffs are thin on the ground and therefore fetch a premium price. If I m not mistaken I believe they only came standard on RS 2000 Escorts.
Oh they also where installed in the Cortina V6 Savages!

You'll get a 3.54 diff on ebay for round about £100-. They also fitted them to all 1600 mk 2 Escorts.
Quaife is good on the road as you don't get the clicking you get on the plate diff's when they get warm.
Although the plate diff's work better in my opinion, (Tran x is a plate diff) especially for Autotesting.

Hi regarding the type of lsd you are intending to fit it really depends on what you are trying to do with the car.

with a tan.x type you can specifie what ramp angles and peload you whant to have wich makes it slightly better for sprintting so you can eventually finer tune the end result of the lsd. Altogh you will find your self having to rebuild or getting it rebuilt to readjust the preload on the diff as the preload decreases the more you use it.

Quaif the quaif type is more of a fit and forget with no adjustments to have made once fitted. althogh there is one small problem in that you need to keep both of the wheels in contact with the road other wise it just reverts back to a std open type with one wheel in the air.

So it dose need a properly setup backend with complient bushing and dampers valved to do the job properly.

Difference between the two is that generally the quaif dose not push you into corners causing understeer.

Where as the tran.x or plate type will always drive both wheel even if one is in the air but will try and push the car on into corners promoting a bit of understeer although most sprinters who prefeer the tran.x type will have the ramp angles and preload sorted to over come most of that problem but it depends on your driving style and car setup.

cheers matt

Forgot to say they don't make a 3.57 diff so I assume it's a typing error. Best check.
