clutch cable

Hi

Building an Indy with a 2.0 pinto engine. Went to fit the clutch cable tonight which is for an RS Mexico Escort and is 100cm in length so when fitted the curve of the cable touches the engine mount..

Should the threaded adjusting part of the cable be loose where it goes through the bell housing? I roughly adjusted the cable and expected the threaded portion to be in line with the cable but becuase it isn't a snug fit it sits at a slight angle, is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Hi when i fitted my cable i put a nut on each side of the bell housing to fit one nut i had to cut a slot in the nut to go over the cable and nipped them up so there is a small bit of slack on the arm .
hope this helps

Evening,

On my clutch cable there is a "plastic" top hat which fits into the hole in the bell housing thus ensuring a snug fit for the threaded adjusment part of the cable.

Hope ths helps.

Regards

David

I think that the Ford clutch with a ballrace release bearing as opposed to a carbon release bearing as on Morris Minors etc is designed to run in contact with the ring on the clutch cover so it is correct to adjust the cable up until the two are pulled into contact. This will avoid the problem with your outer cable and also stop the risk of the inner popping out of the clutch release arm.

thanks for the help

did you also find that the platic insert that fits into the tube in the firewall was also a loose fit and was able to be wiggled around?

I looked at sevral different cables and each one seemed to have the same large round white insert with a smaller tube coming off it with a black foam insert so I'm wondering if that's just the way it is and maybe I should wrap some tape around the insert to take up some of the slack?

Again thanks for taking the time to help me out

Longer cosworth 2wd or 4wd clutch cable works a treat, on my car it goes past the 4 branch not through it.
