Type 9 clutch release bearing round face

does anyone know if you can get a crb for a type 9 that has a rounded face. The standard sierra one ( £10 Yukspeed) has a flat face to push against curly fingers, and i need need a round face to push against flat fingers.

I read that that zetec conversion uses capri one, are these round or flat ?

hi,

is this straightforward zetec to type 9?

if so, i think my tiger suplied clutch assembly was all standard pinto. came with friction plate, cover and release bearing.

I need a round face bearing to fit the flat fingers of the alfa v6 clutch cover.

just rang Burton Power and was told that they do not do any round face bearings to fit type 9.

Just waiting to hear back from clutch specialists (01132 426359) to see if they have any.

the ford sierra bearing (when popped off the plastic carrier is 39.9mm id, 63mm od 18mm deep.

carrier is 38.5mm id, 14mm deep.

oh, and the bearing Mr Owellllllly gave me is 38mm id, 63mm od, 12.3mm deep, which will push onto the carrier with a tight push, but is too shallow.

could always trim the plastic carrier down a bit and use that one.

You can use the Alfa bearing

If you press out the sleve and insert one to suit a ford shaft , you can use the alfa bearing.

It may depend on what you are using to activate the clutch, If you use the fork from an alfa it would fit Ok . But I think you made the bellhousing so maybe your using the ford cable operated fork.

you cqn see the bearing I sleeved to fit in the pic .

Clutch Release Bearings

Hi,

I know that this is an old subject, but it has more of the sort of detail I need than anything else I could find on the net. I need to find the reverse of the previous question.

I have a Type 9 gearbox matched to a BL 18V B series engine via a Marina bellhousing and clutch pack - see www.5speedmarina.com. I am presently replacing the B series with a BL 2.0 T16, using Ital 1.7 O series parts. The key difference that I need advice on is the clutch release bearing.

The Marina based clutch release bearing used a domed faced bearing as it presses on flat fingers on the diaphragm, whereas the T16 clutch has the curled diapraghm fingers and a flat release bearing.

What I am looking for is a a flat faced release bearing with the I/D of the Marina (see Quinton Hazell part no. below) with the O/D of the flat faced bearing from a T16; so that I can fit it onto the Marina clutch release sleeve and avoid having to change the rest of the clutch mechanism.

Marina B Series uses a QH CTT54 dome face bearing
Rover T16 uses a QH CTT280 flat faced bearing

If Trev Borg reads this, if you can point me at the source of the dimensions that you quote I can always look it up for myself.

Assuming your talking cable clutch. The clutch release bearing I ended up with (and depends on your clutch release arm) was SKF part - VKC2601 - take a look at this:

Thanks for the link, hopefully I'll have the same luck as that guy switching bearing onto carriers.

The clutch release is BL hydraulic, it's the release bearing itself I am after. Since posting here and reading your link, I have bought a T16 release bearing, in the in the hopes that I can mount it onto my release sleeve - if not it'll go back on EBay.

I'll post the results here in case it helps anyone else in the future.

Long time since I posted, but I thought that my solution might help others. I ended up changing the T16 clutch cover so that the fingers matched my release bearing. I visited the Helix website and tracked down the T16 clutch cover design and then looked at other vehicles it was fitted to. Different versions use the same cover with different fingers (curved or flat) to suit the release bearing. I also looked for the correct centre to the friction plate to match the Type 9 box (1" dia & 23 splines).

The result of all this revealed the Triumph TR7 clutch pack has the T16 clutch cover but with flat fingers, round release bearing and Type 9 type friction plate!

It also means that there are upgraded versions for later on if I decide to turbo the T16 engine.
