SVA compliant Grill

Can anyone tell me whether this type of mesh will be ok to make a grill from and still pass SVA,

I would say its made form just about 1.5mm diameter wire, its plenty robust enough but im concerned about the radius rules (which i dont really have a full grasp of!!)

Your diameter is ok (1mm min) and gap in mesh must be 40mm or smaller, which yours is. I had to fit a grill around my engine to pass sva second time around and those were the measurements given to me by the tester at Mitcham.

Won't be a problem from my reading of the manual.

Chapter 13 Exterior projections

ii. grills/gaps (eg air intakes or outlets
including that part of a grill that projects
over the surface of the body and the cooling
fins of air cooled engines) having gaps of

more than 25mm but not more than
40mm have edges with a radius of
curvature of not less than 1mm on any
external surface

more than 10mm but not more than
25mm have edges with a radius of
curvature of not less than 0.5mm on any
external surface

not more than 10mm have edges that are
blunted

OK, maybe a silly question

Is a 'grill' needed for the SVA?

Cheers

Not needed as such, but if you don't have anything he can stick his ball in (ooer missus ) and measure any radii inside the nose.
