Getting V5 for pre registered Kit Car

Ok, was looking at flebay this morning and came accross this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280136949227

It is less than 5 miles away from me and looks to have a reg plate on the back. If it was registered, how do i get a replacement V5? This will save the dreaded SVA!! and it would be an afordable build.

Thanks

if v5 is lost and it's registered there is a form at the post office iirc, had to do this for my original donor sierra.

And £25 too i think isn't it? Just phoned the bloke and he's going to get me the reg number so i can look it up to see what it's registered as. Also he's going to get me the cabin width dimentions to see if my lardy arse will fit!! Oh and it's a series 2 Dutton Phaeton which i think are a little wider in the tunnel....maybe wrong

Yes (must have gone up as I'm sure I payed £19 a year ago).

V62 http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/forms/v62.pdf

Edit: Why not go and visit the car and see if you fit? That way you can also see if it's utterly knackered.

But how do you know the VIN and log book haven't already been taken for a different car e.g. locost? Seems to be the fate of many Duttons.

You find that out when you request the V5 and alarm bells ring in Swansea. I think (don't quote me) that the VIN and V5 get repatriated and the ringer gets crushed much to the annoyance of the current owner.

Mike

Apparently it has sat in the corner of his friends garage (commercial workshop) for years. I will need to look up to see what it is.

Where do i look the reg number to see what the car is registered as?

Thanks

click on vehicle enquiry. They've changed it so you need to put in a manufacturer now.
Dutton would be good
Ford would be bad

It's last tax disc ran out in Nov 88 (19 years ago )
Built in 83 so pre SVA but V5 is correct so it was done properly.
Engine looks like the one they've removed, it's the right colour.

Looks right to me.

p.s. it's not on SORN so you will need to do that at the same time as you request the V5.

Sounds like it's fine then; hasn't been taxed since 1988 so the identity hasn't been transferred to another car.

It does sound like a right car to me. Worth a punt id say. Nice honest description as well.
wheels suit the car and look good in the pic.
Defo worth saving by the looks of it.

I have just been to see it and..... What a mess. It will need a total strip down and new ally panels made, Brakes re servicing, engine fitting and running, fiber glass holes filled and re painted, re wiring, new dash and instruments and seats. Not alot in money but alot of work. Lets hope it's cheap!!

Though to be fair the description is clear and honest about it needing a complete rebuild.

Got to be worth the £200 for an SVA if you assume a retest will be needed, and no DVLA hassles.

Are you going to bid? (or offer him cash to remove the listing?)

When i went to see it i could not find the chassis number. You need the number for the V62 to get a new log book. If theres no chassis number then i'm scuppered.

I'll check with the Dutton owners club to see where the chassis number is stamped.

If there is one then i may bid.

Tim Dutton is still up and about I am sure if you contact him he will help you out.He was very affable when I bought a B type back in the early 80s and I doubt he has changed.

I am willing to bet the V5 and reg are being held on to by someone to stick on another Seven esque car in an attempt to avoid SVA..
All of which is illegal of course --- but a can of worms.

Would anyone want to drive a Dutton ? I remember looking at them back inthe 1970s and think my g** what a sad attempt at a Seven relpica they were, just a collection of old parts thrown together.

You need to speak to Mark Young the Membership Secretary, for Information on Dutton chassis numbers and registrations
from the Dutton owners club .

Theres normaly a plate with a chassis number stamped on it under the bonnet.

If theres not and you have the reg, Mark should be able to help anyway

<membershipsecretary@duttonownersclub.co.uk>

Hope this helps

Just like Locosts of today,it all depended on who cobbled it up together. Yeah sure they were an amalgam of bits from there and bits from here. Isn't that the same as seven replicas of today?
