Weigh loss

Apart from me going on a diet .
Im thinking of getting a set of smaller alloys but running 17"s at the mo, would 15"s fit and still look good under the arches.?.
Is there a big weigh save doing this?.
Ive got some Wolfrace octanes .

Apart from the chassis and engine, the heaviest part of my car is the nut holding the steering wheel!

If you REALLY want to reduce the weight of your wheels, you should go for 13" with high-profile tyres... but will the weight reduction make a big difference to your driving experience? Apart from feeling the bumps in the road less, that is...

If you want to be totally committed in racing then I can see the benefit of both car and driver losing some weight - However if you are only driving on the road with the occasional track day, it doesn't make much sense. I can lose 10 pounds in a few hours if I get dehydrated. That's got to be similar to a couple of smaller wheels

Any weight you can lose is a good thing, particularly with unsprung weight and rotational mass, regardless of whether you drive on the road or track. Put smaller wheels on and/or lighter discs and calipers and you certainly notice the difference. The car is much more contollable and therefore has to be safer??

Besides, the whole ethos of BEC's is reducing weight to increase BHP/tonne which ultimately increases the longevity of the engine.

Go for it Joe. Shed that weight.

And ditch things like car batteries!!!

I would get smaller lighter wheels for sure, and make sure you have single layer discs instead of vented.

Oh and lay off the pies, but as we know you are already a stone or so lighter than me!!!

i went from 14" 5.5j x14 fiesta alloys and a539 yoko tyres to
13" 6jx13 rs capri/escort alloys and A48r tyres and saved 12kg and turn in direction change seems better..as well as a massive increase in grip

Hi,

Yes there can be a big difference in wheel weights.

weighed some 17" alloys from a customers car the other day, they were 26Kg each.

The 13" alloys and Avon slicks from my hillclimber weigh 9.6 Kg each.

Ok boys, it's diet time for sure as ive put 3 lb on since my two week break in Spain doing nothing but lounge aroung in the 38 deg heat.
So on a note, it's 15" wheels and R888's, then a Wilwood brake kit for the front.
