Chamfers and Radii

Isn't it funny how many doubts start setting in once you have your SVA date (14th Sept at Norwich for me)

I have made an Ali surround for my gear lever gaiter. Camfered edges all round. Now I start wondering how the radius gauge is applied to a chamfer instead of a radius.

Presumably as long as it can't touch a 'corner' when applied to the perpendicular edges we're OK?

Best of luck with your test . I found Norwich to be very fair and the tester seemed to want to pass the car if possible . The only time any radius gauges were used was on the bottom of my dash , suspect experience takes over when they have tested a few . By the way where are you ?

1. its probably not thick enough to be tested.
2. if it is they will tell you if it is acceptable or not.

Don't worry to much at this stage, just get it tested, at worst you will have a small list of "To doo's"

My tester either had a good hard look at everything, or he walked around running his hand over edges and corners. I'm sure that if he was unhappy about anything he'd have got the gauges out. I had tried very hard to make everything OK, but I'm sure he could have found something if he really wanted to be picky.

Good presentation, and looking as though you've really tried, are at least 75% of the test as far as bodywork and interiors are concerned.

If your gaiter ring is more than (think) 165mm below the centre of the steering wheel then it's not in the contactable area and not a problem. Any sharp edged would be a no-no under their general standard of construction topic...

There's a picture in the SVA manual - I'll see if I can find it.

A point to ponder.
A 90 dgree edge, only has one sharp edge.
A chamfer has two.

Tell them about the bent treacle edges!
