That old chesnut

Rant time.........

Its a tad foggy visibility 500yds + motorway is busy averaging maybe 30-40mph in all three lanes, you can clearly see in your mirror the vehicle behind knows your there as he's following at a safe distance maintaining the same speed as you so why o why do you need your rear fogs on ? He hasn't got his main beam headlights on blinding you ?

Rant two........

Do cars have handbrakes fitted these days ? If I wanted laser eye surgery I would find a specialist not get it free from your high level brake light that you keep illuminated for minutes at a time stood a traffic lights etc............

aaaaaaaaa, that's better.

Oh dear Jon,
You have to realise that these people don't want you forgetting they are in front

My rant is front fog lights, It's not foggy, why have them on,
oh and "sound systems", they wouldn't need such f****** big speakers, if they kept their windows shut!
I don't inflict Slipknot on them why on earth would I want to listen to all that easy listening cr&p they pound out at 300db.
I just hope one day they don't hear the sirens of the fire engine on its' way to their mothers house fire, wiping out a complete gene pool in big accident!"
my rant over

They do still have handbrakes but they also have hill start assist so you don't need to use the handbrake when starting on a hill. I have never applied the handbrake on my new car unless I was parking, hill start assist makes driving in traffic so effortless. The downside is you hold the foot brake at traffic lights and blind the guy behind. That's his problem though

Then again, some brake lights are quite good when you're sat behind them in a traffic jam in a Locost and it's a bit nippy. One car I sat behind was giving off that much infra red I got quite toast warm off their brake lights!!!

The winner has to go to those folk who flash and honk and swear at people for overtaking - likes its a crime!? For god's sake, if you weren't driving a steady 12mph under the limit, then I wouldn't fieel the need to overtake!

They are the ones who do 40mph everywhere. You leave them standing in the 60 limit then when you are doing 30 they are on your bumper drumming their fingers on the steering wheel. I do dead on 30 just to annoy them

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

One reason brake lights on new cars are over bright is that the light output from LEDs drops by 50% in the first 6 months use.

Real reason for using head lights and rear fogs on motorways is you can hit a dense patch of fog in the twinkling of an eye.

i despise people like that.

Re jons comments on foglights, i think people forget sometimes. You have to be on the ball to turn them on and off as the circumstance requires.

My pet hate today is people who refuse to exceed the speedlimit despite there being a whole queue behind them waiting to get past! Ive been doing 250 miles a day this week and last, gets annoying when you've been out 14 hours and some twat makes you loose all your precious momentum as you're trying to get home!

Or the ones who approach my village on the 60mph main road (quite wide) at 30mph, then speed up to 40mph through the twisty road in the village. I usually see this happen at least once every weekend... usually some old person in a trilby, who seems to be scared by hedges...

My other gripe, also to do with fog lights, is about those people who have one dipped headlight blown - do they change the bulb? NO! They drive with their front fogs on to compensate!

You'll probably find that their sound system isin't that loud.. its just such a crap tinny car with 0 sound deadening!

Those that buy the quality components and have a truly loud system also have sound deadening to stop it all ratteling and it makes it sound so much better!

I am guilty of the latter and you can hardly hear it outside the car. I've never failed to see or hear and emergency vehicle, i've usually started to move out of the way long before all the ignorant unobservant drivers have even thought about moving.

I do actually believe what they say about really good (race) drivers having the spare capacity to do and think other things whilst their driving, it seems to copy onto the road as well.

Some peopleappear to be mentally overwhelmed by the sheer basics of driving and they have to concentrate so much they struggle to operate things like fog lights correctly or even notice simple things like headlights out etc.
Yet to other people its sheer basic second nature.

I know its been said before but my biggest beef is with the damn lorry drivers. I don't mean to tar all with the same brush but the number of times I have to swerve or break heavily to avoid the lorry I am currently in the process of passing from taking me out of this world is just rediculous. I mean passing that lorry in front of you whos doing 58MPH when you are doing 59MPH must take a full 5 minutes off your journey max. Give me and the rest of the commuting world who can travel faster than 59 a break and stay on the inside lane where in my option you shouldn't be allowed out of except to avoid an obstruction.

Also while I am on the subject, and again not meaning to tar with the same brush but you idiots who travel like 3 feet behind the next lorry are crazy. I have seen like 10 accident where I know the lorry driver was brown bread and all because he didn't leave a decent gap.

P.S.
Hope I didnt offend anyone, I love you lorry drivers really and thanks for bringing my dinner to Asda.

i'd agree, keep em in the first lane and if they dont like it, put rails in so they have no choice! Then link em all together, would save a fortune in fuel bills, plus only one driver needed! Then only let them stop at a few places along the way. Magic! Someone should've thought of this years ago

yep mine is front fog lights too, it used to be boy racers but as the lower spec cars nowadays have them fitted as standard there are far more cars one the road with them fitted. But what gets me are the ones that only have their sidelights on and fog lights, if they switched on their headlights they wouldnt need the fogs on to see!!!!

over the last few weeks ive got more and more twitchy about this and now act like them, selfishly illminated the road so 'I' can see better at the cost of blinding the on comming cars. When i see a car with its fogs on i dont flash, i just switch to main beam until they have past. Considering i have 3 pairs of 55w spots on my rangerover i can actually see them 'notice me'. thats 440 watts of power to remind them its a dog eat dog world out there.

A small note to Range Rover drivers with HID lights.. If a small car rolls or pulls forward and possibly over the white lines at traffic lights it is to avoid your bloody headlights blinding them NOT because they want to race!

Not sure about anybody else or if its just where my mirrors are but there a menace!

I got a bit annoyed with some Tesco lorries on sunday.

Was coming down from Inverness on the wonderful A9 to find a que of about 30 cars in front doing about 40mph behind a Tesco lorrie. Did about 10 - 15 miles like this until we got to the next strip of dual carriage way by which point there must have been 60+ cars & lorries behind me.

Looking in the mirror i could see it snaking back round the next few bends loads of other Arctics etc. I just got past by the end of the dual carriageway.

I think there should be a law brought in for this as to make drivers pull over if any more than 5 vehicles behind. Some idiots were making pretty stupid lunges down the wrong side of the road and there were four or five near misses from what i could see, all because people were getting frustrated with the delay.

What i couldn't understand is why we were doing 40. If it was uphill 40, downhill 40, flat 40. Do Eddie stobart only do 40 on single carriage ways?

To make things worse i got about 5 miles further on before getting stuck behind the next tesco lorry doing 40.

Took nearly 3 hrs to do the journey of Inverness to Perth (about 110 miles)

Also it wasnt foggy (i think 1 patch over a burn) but there seemed to be loads of people with fog lights on.

I'll second that, I seem to have my interior mirror permanently in anti dazzle mode these days due to the ubiquity of the chelsea tractor brigade.
