Gearboxes?
Hi,
Whilst browsing these forums i saw a few different types of gearboxes. One transverse placed(FWD), one with the driving axle pointing to the
rear(locost) and also some gearboxes used in mid engined cars where the box is behind the engine but the axles come out from the sides. What types of
engine/gearbox xombinations can be made with on of these?
tnx

If i understand your question right i think you are talking about a transaxle (Renault 25, Porsche etc). These are used in certain mid-engined rear
wheel drive cars like the Ultima, Ford GT40, Ferrari P4 replicas etc.
Like this???Ultima GTR engine bay

One transverse placed(FWD) Aerial Atom, Sylvia Riot, rear engine rear drive
Mid engine rear drive is usually Renualt 25 and with the right adaptor any engine can be made to fit.
I do know of a 302 cube inch with 350bhp going on to a Renualt transaxle in a GT40 just round the corner from me.

I read my post and realised it isnt very clear. The question is about an engine+gearbox setup as can be seen in the picture from the Ultima. My
question is about these gearboxes, because i never seem te be able to find any info about them. Can they be coupled with any engine just like a
'normal' gearbox?

You will find some useful info here...
NF Auto
Not sure what other engines it will fit to beyond the V8's and Renault engines mentioned at the bottom of the page.

Ok, I was just wondering if you can combine these transaxles with any engine. And what about the diffs that are available?

I remember some Audi (90's?) used a transaxle in the front.
