Fibreglass fuel tanks

Anyone got any idea how they're made.

The way i see it, you must need very small hands to layup through the filler hole!

Thanks

Simon

Could you make it inside out, i.e. with an inflatable male mould. So you have an fuel tank shaped baloon that you blow up to a decent pressure, layup on the outside then deflat baloon once set. Would that work???

BTW, I know nothing about fibreglass!!

Conrodkid,

So did I, small world eh. Mine was a Rickman Metisse that I used to race, what was yours?

The tank got holed a few times at Cadwell due to horizontal excursions (limit evaluation exercises), but never caught fire, unlike the yam 750 that dropped in front of me

I understood that they were made illegal for road bikes.

static electricity

when you were a child and used to go down the slide in the playground, remember you used to get zaped sometimes as you went down.

Static Electricity and Petrol does not make a good combination, you know ur driving down the road minding your own bussiness one minute, a locost shaped fireball the next

Laughed when i heard that about the mini's at the time... you'd think they'd of noticed a static shock from the fuel filler cap

Not a good idea as I would have thought fibreglass would shatter in an impact, not to mention I think petrol would weaken it over time? This chap Plastic tank manwill make you a plastic fuel tank (big suprise considering his nickname) if you want one.
