Just finishing my xe install at the min
had my crank checked and it was fine - no grind necessary!!!
block had a .5 rebore
new pistons were over £200 ( with rings)
then you have got all your gaskets and seals etc...
just work your way through the haynes manual , and take your time -
I bought a bit from e-bay and its taken over 2 yrs now, just did it as a project and now its time to fit it!!!
on with the wiring now

You need the workshop manual for the Astra. Not sure if you can buy it anymore but I got a 2nd hand one on Amazon for 50p.

The XE is a pretty easy engine to rebuild. Basic costs are

- Hone = £40
- New rings = £60
- Mains and big ends go for ACL heavy duty = £80
- Skim head = £50
- New oil pump = £70
- New Water pump = £40

Then all your gaskets and seals etc

The manual that covers 1990 astras will be the one. I think it's got a blue cover.

or the brown one that covers the mk3 cavalier, this also has a good chunk on XE rebuild, as does the calibra manual.
