R1 Oil question

Ok, another couple of questions on the oil requirements for a 5VY R1 engine....

1) What type of oil is the best, Synthetic
or part synthetic and what grade ?

2) I have read that you need to overfill by
250ml, but what is the normal fill level ?

Cheers,
Kosmo

I run my R1 on Halfords synthetic motorcycle oil, never had any problems and it gets hammered! DO NOT use car oil, the additives ar not compatible with the wet clutch.

Must admit I do fill mine a little over the level in the sight glass.

Motul 300V 10W-40.

Not sure on the setting of the level on newer engines, but the 5JJ level is at the top of the window at tickover when warm.

Spin 'er off Well...

ive stuck the castrol superbike one in mine. using a bike oil is better as they are designed to protect the gearbox more than a car oil.

dont use one of the new car low zddp oils as the gears wont last very long.
