You couldn't make it up

A few months back i bought an old diahatsu sportrack for the missus to haul stuff up to her allotment in. Only gave £300 for it, ripped the back seats out to make it more van like. She loved it, great in the mud etc

It got nicked on Monday night, and turned up a few days later burned out.

Plod phoned me, as its registered in my name, to tell me it had been recovered to a yard 20 miles away.

Phoned the yard, and explained i don't want to claim on the insurance (excess is £250 for a start)

Upshot is they want me to pay them £150 for recovering it, and after a week they start adding storage charges

Feel like telling them to get stuffed, I never asked for it to be recovered, If plod had phoned me first i would have collected it myself and weighed it in. it must be worth £100 scrap value, but not sure how i stand.

Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?

Al.

And to add insult to injury, they only accept cash payments, so if i do pay up, it will cost me in diesel and time to do it.

it's taken me ten bloody minutes!

seems like an unfortunate situation you've fallen into but i can't see there's any way round it unless you argue it out with the police.

i imagine they'll just say it's procedure, your insurance will cover it.

The contract to recover was with the person who called them out (Police) not you so I'd persue that (best of luck).

I've had to disable images on my pc!!! ;-)

We bought my mate a Sunny saloon. It cost us £5 including half a tank of fuel! It got nicked (they must have heard about its awesome lift off oversteer). The police asked for thr £150 for the recovery cost. My mate said 'bugger off, it's worth £5 - keep it!' They eventually agreed, and kept it!

There was me thinking this was a car builders forum.......

It seems to have been hijacked by a bunch of teenage adolescent boys......

Remember boys..keep the pics and remarks clean......we have other members on here that aren't teenage adolescent lads........

Please don't make it that people can't view this site in a family setting, or have to turn off graphics just to appease the few of you trying to 'better' the last lad...

ISTR just recently, a group of students used this site whilst building a car for their BTEC (or similar).......
It would be sad, if colleges etc. put this site on the 'banned' list wouldn't it?

I've had two vans stolen this year and on each occasion when I reported it the police asked if I wanted them to recover it to a place of safety at £125 (I think) or simply tell me where it was for me to arrange recovery.

I said I would recover it and the policeman recording the details said "Good Choice"

i had a scooter stolen a good few years back, reported it to the fuzz, they called me later on to tell me they'd had it recovered from the park, no more than 5 mins walk from my house, to a place about 10 miles away, then told me about the £105 i had to pay for the cost of the recovery, i wrote the snotty letter, sent recorded delivery to the police and got no reply
