Two types of Escort steering rack?

I found in several Escort mk1 & mk2 steering racks I colected, two types of dimensions between mountings: 255mm (10.039") & 262mm (10.314") (not 100% accurate).

Then I went in to a friend garage and measured that distance in a mk1 Escort and it was near 255mm (10.039") , but one of the old ones I have was from a mk1 Escort Estate/Van and it is 262mm (10.314").

The new rack I put on my Locost was sold as it was for a Escort mk1 or mk2 and measures 262mm (10.314")..

So, does anyone knows something about those dimensions between rack mountings? The Escorts mk1 e mk2 had different rack mountings?

Cheers & thanks

The one i bought is supposed to be for a MK1 MK2 and the distance seems to be around 255mm. The total length including the arms is 1020mm.

I have a program that should say but is not working at the moment. I need to sort it out.

Check the Threads!

From previous research, and a mistaken purchase, I discovered that Mk 1 Escort racks has UNF threads on the tie-rod ends, whereas the Mk 2 has metric threads.

Suggest you check threads on yours.

yes, I already did noticed those different kind of threads.

but now the problem is the different dimensions between mountings.

are the two mk's Escort same mounting and the other dimension is what, or for what car?

You will probably find that the shorter rack is an escort one and the longer on is a cortina rack. They look the same but one is longer than the other.

no, that's not. I have a Cortina rack and a Sierra too, those are more larger and stronger.
that rack is equal but the dimension between mountings and was taken from a Escort Estate.
