suzuki twin cam gti engine.

Has anyone put the 1300cc engine out of a swift gti into a locost, or similar rwd set up. I was wondering what gearbox they used and if parts are avalible to buy, or would every thing have to made, ie manifold's etc.





UNDERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
OVERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
HORSEPOWER is how fast you hit the wall.
TORQUE is how far you take the wall with you.

is that a mk1 gti? my dad had one of them back in the day. was actually good fun.

They were a popular swap for SJ413 at one point and if I remember correctly were a straight bolt in swap so that would give you a RWD box. The one I saw had a 4 branch that might have been a janspeed. How much the single cam 1300 and the twincams differ in the head to exhaust I don't know.

Using standard injection and SJ413 gearbox, need to get a prop made up and exhaust manifold, then she might move Rescued attachment Its in.jpg

I have one with a Samurai trans sitting in the garage right now waiting to be installed. I would love to put bike T/B's and megasquirt on it when I do install it. On my locost it will be replacing a Ford xflow so I need all new guages, new prop shaft, new fuel tank because of the EFI. It will be a major overhaul when I do it. Anyone know how to make the stock ECU a stand alone unit????

cheers guys, the link is magic, as i was thinking of putting the engine into a midget. Now i need to source engine and box.

Like you trialsman i was thinking bike carbs but i was just going to use a mgeajolt set up.

Madrallysport, As you can see in the pic's the stock EFI will be in the way of the bonnet. On a new build usually not a problem. But on an existing car with a scoop already on top right of the bonnet there may be issues. Also the dizzy sticks WAY out the back of the motor. I planned on using a trigger wheel, etc. and do away with it. Won't know till I pull out the ford lump to see. Nothing is easy anymore for me. If xflow parts were as cheap and available in the USA as they are in sunny England I would just rebuild the 1300cc Xflow and be happy with 58hp. Russ

Not many 1300 push rod engines in the states. I had a swift engine in a vauxhall nova year ago, mated to the vauxhall gearbox, but ran it twin 40 carbs. It went really well. You say about the dizzy at the back, i'm going to do away with it and run a trigger wheel and a megajolt but there is a 90 degree adptor you can buy if you want to run with the standard wiring and set up. I seen them used on a coule of mk2 escort rally cars over here.

Yes I have seen the 90deg dizzy but they want almost $400 US which is out of my budget. If I am doing M/S I might as well do the trigger wheel while I am at it.

My only question is how well the GTi engine works with the wide ratios of the Samurai/Carry van (same gearbox). The ratios are about the same as the Sierra.

Has anyone had any on the road experience with the combo?

cheap way around the dizzy is using a Mazda 323 dizzy which is alot stumpier. Should fit in ok with it on.
I got an engine with full loom etc sitting i was going to drop in an SJ for some fun but never got round to it.
Engine with complete loom clocks fuel pump etc sittin ghere if anyone after one.

Not sure if it's any use to you but we ran one in a RWD Fiesta tarmac rally car. We fabricated the inlet manifold but I know Bill Falconer in Scotland casted them for Novas etc. We used a 4 branch exhaust from a Toyota 4age and just welded on a flange, the primaries lined up perfectly. I think we used a Mk1 dizzy and one of those electronic points replacement things, and twin 45 Webers.

They are a brilliant engine, Bill Falconer re-built it to 1400, just on 160bhp and it would rev all day, never gave us an ounce of bother.

Has anyone seen a stand alone wiring diagram for the Swift g13b stock wiring and ECU? That would save me a fortune vs. using Megasquirt, Russ
