For those of us who haven't got the mag, what is it?

oh yeah....didn;t think of that
basically you buy and prepare a car for less than a grand, and race it against the others

Ahh locost! Supposed to be able to build a Haynes for a grand, how much time have you got? Unfortunately my build budget has gone over a grand by a
couple of hundred quid

Basically you have to buy you car, modify it (it still has to be fully road legal) and then race against the others in a drag race and then a timed
slalom event.
Personally I might be tempted by something like a MK3 Supra...although the handling might need some polishing for the slalom course ;-)
I was thinking about entering but figured my time was better spent on the kit car.

Does it have to be a production car or can you build your own? I'm sure you could build some sort of lightweight single seater for under a
grand... if you've got the time!

The Road Legal bit might stump you with that one.....Once you have paid for SVA etc you wont have much budget.
Buying a very shedy Dutton might be a better option. Infact very much like the one Donut was looking at here

Sounds very much like the Grassroots Motorsport $2007 challenge.
I'd agree building from scratch and putting through SVA would blow the budget. Getting something already registered but very cheap (like the
dutton) would have a good chance.
Otherwise 205 GTi or similar would have to be favourite.
How are they preventing the easy ways of cheating? (won't see my copy until the end of the week)

Can you spend tuppence on a car and then several hundred on a decent engine? And are you allowed to gut the car to get the weight right down?

Or can you buy your mates £15k trackday BEC for £1 (and sell it back to him after the competition for £2)

Basically its done on trust. If it looks like its worth more than £1k you're out.

on the ppc forum, there was a suggestion that you must be prepared to sell your car for 1k after the event,if anyone wants it
should keep the value of the cars below 1k!
you are allowed to strip the cars to get weight down, and also sell parts to offset the initial cost of the motor
