Wheels/tyres for an indy.

I know this has been posted a million times, I've read all the threads I could find going back to 2003-ish, and I'm still bloody confused.

Basically I want something black and spokey.

Like the looks of team dynamics pro race 1.2s, but I'm utterly, completely clueless on what'd fit/suit the indy.

Help me, Locost builders; you're my only hope.

I think they're 7" but could be talking rubbish as usual. I'll have a look on the net and see what I can come up with.

yep I'm talking rubbish. They're 6.5 wide as you stated.

The tyres are Toyo 195/50/15 and fill the rear arches nicely.

Hope that helps

Agree with you on the rims - the Team Dynamics Pro Race 2 rims on mine suit it very well. Also 190/55 15s, 7x15 IIRC.

They look very good in the flesh and the finish is good.

Don't get too excited, it's not me in the pic.

You can't see the back axle as easily in that pic, but they look just as good from all angles. Just don't buy the s**** tyres pictured...

Noted. (what are they? )

I think it's down to TD pro race 1.2s or pro race 2s now.

any idea of the offset on the 2s?

Cheers.

Kumho Ecsta 712s, but don't worry, they don't make them any more.

I'd go for the usual trackday rubber or some very sticky road rubber. With these, it seems like it's impossible to get heat into the fronts. My theory is that the carcass is too stiff/heavy, designed for V-rated use in 1200kg+ front-engined road cars. 500kg MK with a bike engine in the nose and a low c of g just pushes them sideways. I suspect any normal sporty road tyre will have similar issues, hence I now understand why people are using hard-core semi trackday rubber on their sevens. I was doing c. 20 minute track sessions this weekend with the pressures dropped right down, and the fronts stayed stone cold.

Personally, I'm too cheap to pay for R888s or similar, so I'll just continue getting in the way of the other drivers at track days and sliding everywhere. But I'd recommend some sort of proper sticky tyre, whatever size you end up with.

Edit - on the plus side these tyres will last the lifetime of the car...
Don't recall the offset I'm afraid.

unfortunately, they only do them in little, which IMO doesn't look great on an Indy.

Cheers.

It's gotta be the 1.2s. (15" etc)

What offset do I need? they don't seem to do 38.

35 or 40 better? (i'd assume 40, but I'm happy to be wrong)

Just talked to MK, better price than mac1, not as good as MNR, but they do the ET38 offset, so that'll do
