TO make this short and sweet I am thinking of building a Westfield probably an SEi. I am contemplating using a Zetec 2.0 or use an Mazda MX5 as a donour. Just wondering if I look for one with low mileage or should I not worry about the mileage and just rebuild the engine. Fairly new to all this so go easy on me.

The lower mileage option is always better but you can be sure that whatever you select, you will want more power after a few months driving it - so don't rebuild until you have driven it a while - then spend the money on getting what power you realy want.

Also - once it's up and running get into a group with similar cars and see what they are doing - I'm sure you will make more informed decisions then.

Good Advice. I am certainly not rushing into anything as I know these things take lots of time and some carefull consideration. I think if I go for low mileage Eunos 1.8 and keep it as standard till I get used to it and then start tuning when I have more money. What car do you own

A 20 year old kit cobra built by my wife and I that I am busy converting to track day use (The funny thing is that I always thought it had enough power )and a 50% completed Locost type with Blacktop Toyota 1600 motor that I am already regretting because I think I would like a turbo motor in it.

My tintop is a Subaru 2.5 Outback as I do about 20 000 km per year on Gravel roads and it's ideal for that - actually think they're brilliant distance cruisers that gives me 30mpg cruising at about 140kph.

Yeah do that, keep it standard for now.
I had a standard x-flow in my locost and I felt it was enough for a while. Later I upgraded the whole engine (head valves cam pistons webers etc) and I thought it was really great, till I took a ride in my mates dax rush quadra that has 337bhp at the wheels....

It really depends what you want to use the car for.

Don't worry about high mileage either, very few of us rack up many miles each year.
