OT - TV AV 2 Input question
Here's one for the amazing forum that can answer anything......
I have a Samsung Series 5 40" TV, I use the AV 2 Input plugs for the Wii/Playstation/Video input (the red/yellow/white plugs).
After 15-20 minute use, the colour image jumps to fuzzy black and white. It's the same for either Wii/Playstation/Video, each has it's own
lead, so I think the TV is at fault. Sometimes it's just B&W straight away when switching on.
The actual TV is fine and gets a fine colour picture all the time, it's just the AV 2 Input that goes B&W.
Any ideas what might be causing this??
The TV is within the 12 month garentee, but I will lose the TV for 10 days if it needs repairing, as shop won't supply a temporary replacement
in South Africa.

presumably av1 is a scart input? wii/playstation/video should all have scart options i think?
can't think of any reason why the picture would go fuzzy, normally just goes plain black or blue.
does the sound still work ok when it gues fuzzy?
as far as i knew, the fuzzy image you normally get when a tv isn't tuned in properly, is due to all sorts of radio frequencies from space, which
causes the interferance, so on a av input, there shouldn't be any way the tv is picking these up. very strange

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Hmmmm - If I recall, a composite input (the yellow lead) going black/white can happen if the TV is in PAL mode for an NTSC input and/or vice versa.
Not sure why yours would be getting confused though - does sound dodgy. Maybe a poor connection at the plug - has it been strained a lot by lead
swaps? Does wiggling the plug fix/trigger the problem? Unlikely to be a setting or anything else you have any control over, imho, so a replacement may
be the only option. Alternatively, you really ought to be using HDMI for a PS3 (or RGB scart if it's a PS2) as you'll get much better
picture quality - the red/white/yellow input is the worst possible picture quality. Similarly a component cable (red/blue/green/red/white) is
available for the Wii allowing it to output better quality 480p, and depending on what sort of video you're talking about that may also have a
better connection available allowing you to avoid the troublesome AV2 input altogether.

Colour carrier is much higher frequency than the luminance on a composite connection, if there was something causing a partial short circuit on the
input signal it would effectively behave as a low pass filter and the colour signal would be removed first. What happens if you wiggle the yellow
plug around when you have the fault?
Do you have component inputs on your TV (Green, Blue and Red phono connectors)? On the Wii at least the quality is vastly better over a component
connection, but you need to buy a component cable (cheap).
