I think we've become lazy
Has anyone noticed that in the "old" days - 15+ years ago - one was willing to spend hours on the net searching for information. Now if
one doesn't find it within 10 minutes or less one gives up in frustration and posts a question on a forum.

I'd argue the opposite. Why waste hours looking when a simple question can be the key? No one is obliged to answer. It's a more efficient
solution to a problem.

Agree with Joel, 15 years ago I had the time to spend ages researching and then actually doing stuff......these days I don't seem to get any
time to do anything, and I'm sure most people are in the same boat, pace of life has definitely changed for the worse.

Isn't that what forums are about? Tapping in to the knowledge and experience of others?

15 years ago I would have gone to the local autofactors, a shop on the high street or asked a man that knows down the local pub, seems like none of
these options are available in todays economy/world ??????
(or god forbid took the thing apart, worked out how it worked, fixed it and put it back in, not just replaced it).

The only possible problem with asking a question on a forum is that of the number of answers you get there may only be
one or two that are correct. But which one or two?
Iv'e posted stuff that I have found out by experience afterwards was wrong, but as most forums don't let you go back and edit
then some poor sod finds it and makes the same mistake.
Makes me think of when I first redecorated our bedroom.
Stripped the wall paper off and it was written on the plaster "10 rolls" so I bought 10 rolls.
Bumped into the previous tenant a month later and told him I'd bought 10 but it only took 7.
"Yes, I did that as well" he said.

This forum is a bit different, due to so many one offs etc.
But if you go on forums for manufacturer built cars,I'll use Briskoda as a example, repeated new threads asking the same question to common
faults is very annoying.
The search function on most forums is excellent,so take a couple of minutes to type in your fault/question and you will find the info required

I bugs me a little when people ask the same questions, but I just don't read any further

I don think there is anything wrong with asking any technical question. What bugs me is the people who feel the need to start a thread for every inane
thought they have or trivial happening in their life.

It really grinds my gears when forum warriors let you know "there's a search button for things like this you know", especially on
forums you've paid for. I know there's a search button, but it's my forum too, and I'll ask a question if I like.

More efficient, but less effective? There's always someone willing to give an answer, even if it's based on (honestly believed) folklore
and nonsense.
