Prop Bolts

I've read a through stories about props coming loose so was hoping someone will point me in the right direction.

Running an R1 06 engine so have an mk adapter sprocket. What nuts and bolts (sizes/material/grade/style) are people using and where did they get them from.

Also on the rear Im running an MK reverse gear (starter motor)which adds an additional 2mm to the thickness I have the for prop to diff bolts will they be ok also do they not have nuts? I thought this was a bit weird (not safe)

No nuts, just a locking compound and done up to the correct torque. The orginal ford ones come with a coating of locking compound I think.

No idea about length sounds like you'll be on a quest for the correct (longer) bolts, and need some loctite.

Ford ones are rated at 12.9

yea, the standard ford prop bolts have the locking compound on them...
only problem is that theyre a ford thread, so youll probably find it hard to get them.
im using 12.9 m8 bolts with nylock nuts at the engine end, going to upgrade to high tensile ones though just to be on the safe side.

Its not usually the bolts that are the problem, its the nut that holds the adapter onto the output shaft of the gearbox.

There are mixed views about weather the nut should clamp the adapter tight onto the shaft or not. If you do a search you will note the the guru andy bates does make a recommendation of this subject, that would be the way I would go if I had a BEC.

These will work in place of the Ford bolts & are a bit longer.

I never managed to find fine pitch 12.9 nuts for the prop adapter end so just went for some standard pitch M8x40 12.9 cap heads & nuts from Namrick, but the shop above do 10.9 hex head M8x40 which would work too.

whats that then i must of missed somrthing? i have run my adapter 'loose' as in the nut is very tight to the output shaft but the adapter has some play been ok in 3500 miles
