Hi all, I'm looking to get an oil pressure gauge for my r1'd MNR. What's the best to go for electric or mechanical and can anyone
recommend how best to fit it to a 5pw r1 engine?
Thanks all...
I prefer ekectronic, saves acing a tube of hot high pressure oil in the cab
Usualy you just remove the standard oil light sender put in an adaptor with two takeoffs and put the light sender and pressure sender in that.
electric senders do not survive well on bike engines, you need to install via a short flexible coupling, I used a spare brake pipe
I suspect that the mechanical gauges possibly give a more reliable pressure reading but are more prone to leakage from the pipework, some of the sender units for electric gauges are a bit heavy and bulky , as already suggested a flexible hose to a secure mounting point is a good idea.
Hi Johnny
There's some pictures of what I did with mine in this link.

Cheers all!
Wheels that looks good and fairly simple to do. Did the fitting that you put into the oil cooler bolt come with the Racetech gauge?

Hi wheels, is this the bolt you used when you had your mnr? Mine looks a bit rusted so might not be the best option?

Hi Johnny
Yes, that's the one - the oil cooler bolt.
I think it should be OK, there was a bit of meat on the bolt if my memory serves me right. so I don't think the bit of surface rust is too much
to worry about.

Or get another one from a breakers or even a new one ?
Cheers again Wheels, gives me something to sort on the car seeing as the weather is too crap to go out in it
