Electronic speed signal - adding VSS to a gearbox/car
Hi folks,
I'd like to pick your brains about:
-adding an electronic speed signal to various gearboxes
-adding an electronic speed signal to a car using various inductive speed sensors
There is a commercial angle on this: I sell Head up Display speedometers and I'd like to put together a fairly comprehensive list of ways to
drive them if you haven't already got a VSS signal.
The information will be complied/hosted/kept available for all to see though, and I hope it can become a useful resource for anybody wanting to find a
speedometer solution - whether using a SpeedView or otherwise.

that is an interesting project,... I will watch with interest. Did some work with the team behind the fledgling Drivesmart systems one,... lost in the
mists of time!

Cheers Howard! The LEDs and drive circuits have recently dropped to a price/performance level that makes the inexpensive daylight visible displays
practical. (so long as you're not trying to do anything too clever/multi-function - those still demand an expensive whacking great big projector
light source and LCD, or a scanning laser) When the trader status show up I'll be recruiting some test pilots.

SpeedView Matt? I'll have to start a new thread shortly by the looks of things.
Not waterproof as standard, though it survives showers fine - long term test car was an MX5 which got utterly drenched on more than one occasion -
just don't leave puddles of water lying in the 'bowl' the screen sits in.
If you split the case and fit it flush you can make it as-near-as-makes-no-odds waterproof with a smear of acrylic or instant gasket between
screen/case and case/dash. No car to hand, but here's it flush-fitted to a cardboard box:

It'll be shadowed/protected from the worst of the elements by your aeroscreen - you'll need something like this for the projection to be
visible:
